Finishing Imperfect Art

When I started working on Horatio the Curious Bunny, I wasn't trying to create a perfect book. At least, that's what I told myself. The truth is, like many artists, I wanted every illustration to be better, every page to be stronger, and every sentence to sound just right.

The story went through only a few drafts before I reached a familiar crossroads. Part of me wanted to keep revising. Another part wanted to start over completely. And a small voice suggested that maybe I wasn't ready to make picture books yet.

Instead, I decided to finish it.

Looking at the completed book now, I can see all the things I would do differently. The illustrations aren't where I want them to be. Some pages could be stronger. But I can also see something else: growth.

Every finished project teaches us more than an unfinished one ever could. Horatio's story is about a bunny searching for his special gift. In a way, creating the book taught me a similar lesson. Progress doesn't come from waiting until we're good enough. It comes from creating, learning, and continuing anyway.

The book may not be perfect, but it exists. And that is something worth celebrating.

Onward to the next story.
